SEVENTEEN officers of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) were promoted yesterday in a ceremony at the Officers’ Mess at Bolkiah Garrison.

The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) said in a press statement that the RBAF promotions are part of an ongoing effort to recognise, reward and groom officers who have performed well and demonstrated potential to contribute further to the RBAF.

The officers were given the promotion in rank after meeting certain criteria set by the RBAF Career Development Structure.

“The senior officers that have been promoted were selected based on achieving a set criteria, and overall they must have shown good discipline and a high level of performance that is up to the standards expected of them,” said MinDef Director of Personnel Col Hj Abdul Hadi Hj Saim.

“They would have to be physically fit and have completed military courses that are tailored for the particular ranks, and only after the criteria have been met would their names be recommended to the Defence Executive Committee for promotional consideration,” he said.

Col Hj Abdul Hadi said these promotions are given by the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and the Supreme Commander of the RBAF.

One of the promoted officers, 686 Lt Commander Hj Edy Jofren Pehin Datu Penglima Hj Abd Jalil, RBN, said that it was a proud day for all of the promoted officers and their families.

“Firstly, on behalf of all the promoted officers, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to His Majesty for the honour,” he said.

“At the same time, we realise that we are being entrusted with a very big responsibility, so we will do our best to fulfil what is expected of us,” he said.

The officers were presented with their new insignias by Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
