ABDUL Hamid Hj Abdul Rahman was announced the winner of the 2016 Brunei Telephone Directory Cover Competition yesterday, for his photograph entry depiction of the competition’s theme: ‘Building visionary generation with technology’.

The prize presentation was held at TelBru’s branch at Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah shopping complex.

Present as the guest of honour to giveaway the prize to the winner was Lim Ming Soon, Chief Marketing Officer of TelBru.

This year’s chosen theme of ‘Building visionary generation with technology’ was selected as an attempt to highlight the country’s efforts to stimulate economic growth in realising the national vision 2035.

In order for Brunei Darussalam to achieve the positive change it envisions, it has to come from the very core – its people.

The theme also highlights young people who are often heralded as the leaders of tomorrow, yet in reality they are already leading important change today.

In today’s world, technology is advancing continuously and has a major influence on our day to day lives.

According to TelBru, the response for this year’s competition has been quite overwhelming. Although it was tough to judge, the one contributor that stood out due to his sheer determination in visualizing the theme was Abdul Hamid’s piece which will be featured on the cover of the 2016 Brunei Telephone Directory.

The other 15 participants in the competition were also present to receive their certificate of appreciation and consolation prize in the form of vouchers. These certificates were handed over by James Lee, Managing Director of Tele Directories (B) Sdn Bhd.

In an interview on the sidelines of the event, Abdul Hamid told The Brunei Times that his entry showed students of the Jefri Bolkiah Engineering college fixing electronic components, as part of their robotics course at the college.

The teacher from Pusat Latihan Mekanik (PLM) said: “I chose to use the photo which I happened to take while carrying out my duties as official photographer of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE).”
