Religious Affairs N-Day gathering

National 1 minute, 14 seconds

BRUNEIANS are reminded to be thankful to Allah SWT and to remember their beginnings as the sultanate has gone through various episodes to reach its independence in 1984.

During the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ (MoRA) 32nd National Day gathering yesterday at the International Convention Centre, the Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman said Allah SWT has fulfilled Brunei’s prayers as Allah SWT has been protecting the country.

“What we call rezeki (sustenance), it is fate that has been set by Allah SWT,” he said.

YB Pehin Dato Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin explained the difference between a formal prayer and the national anthem.

He said that the formal prayers require the Muslims to raise their hands, while the national does not.

“It goes the same for Marhaban Asyraq al-Badru’alaina where there are phrases that are meant as a prayer, but we just stand without raising our hands,” he said.

The minister added that saying the name “Darussalam” is already a prayer as it means “Abode of Peace” in the English language.

YB Pehin Dato Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin then concluded by stating the ministry’s 2015/2016 vision and mission.

Over 2000 officers and staff from the ministry attended the talk which was aimed at instilling the passion and spirit of patriotism for the country, along with strengthening the relationship between the officers and staff of the ministry.
