Prisons Department holds prayers at Royal Mausoleum

A tahlil ceremony was held at the Royal Mausoleum yesterday by the Prisons Department to pay respects to the late parents of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzadin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The Royal Mausoleum is the final resting place of the late monarch, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit.

The tahlil was held to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of the Prisons Department which was on March 1, 1954 after being separated from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF). 

At the time, the Prisons Department was under the administration of the Assistant British Resident. Now it is a department under the Ministry of Home Affairs

The ceremony began with a mass recitation of Surah Yassin followed by the tahlil which was led by Ustaz Hj Rahim Jama Soleh.

Present at the ceremony were the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Hj Md ‘Abdoh Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Salam as well as the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Hj Idris Hj Md Ali.

Also in attendance was the Acting Director of Prisons, Hj Ismail Hj Murat along with senior officials, officers and personnel from the Prisons Department.

Among the main tasks of the department are to carry out rehabilitation programmes that focus on moral spirituality and principles of life through religious education and skill courses that are updated from time to time.
