Focus on improving O-level, IGCSE results now: minister

THE Minister of Education urged secondary schools in the sultanate to focus on improving students’ results in the Brunei-Cambridge ‘O’ level and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations.
According to a press statement from the ministry yesterday, Education Minister, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman said schools should identify programmes that aimed at improving students' results in Brunei-Cambridge examinations during his official visit to two schools in Belait District yesterday.
The two schools were Anthony Abell College in Seria and Perdana Wazir Secondary School in Kuala Belait. The minister pointed out that the ministry's current initiative this year is to ensure secondary schools are focusing on the development of students’ academic achievements in Brunei-Cambridge examinations.
The objective of the visit was to monitor closely whether the two schools’ management are in line with the MoE’s initiative towards improving the students' examination results, said the statement.
During the visit, the education minister mingled with the teachers and students from the two schools and toured around the schools’ classrooms and buildings. The visit was also to find out whether there were any necessary repairs required in and around the schools’ compound.
Also present during the visit was the Education Deputy Minister Pg Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar.
