OVER 400 municipal department personnel under the Support, Vehicle and Maintenance Section (BPKPK) were deployed to ensure the cleanliness of Taman Hj Sir Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital and its surrounding areas before, during and after the 32nd National Day grand assembly.

According to Mohammad Hj Md Taha, assistant municipal officer I of BPKPK, cleaning operations began two weeks ago.

He said BKBPK had carried out tasks such as cleaning drainage systems and main roads using water tanker trucks.

They also put up rubbish collection bins at several locations, after cleaning them out. Pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs were also conducted as well as grass cutting.

Prior to that, Mohammad said the BKBPK was also involved in the setting up of flags at Taman Sir Hj Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien and areas under the control of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department such as Tamu Kianggeh, Royal Wharf, Jalan Residency, Jalan Kianggeh, Jalan Bendahara as well as buildings under the BSB Municipal Department.

A day before the grand assembly, he said a final clean up was done until midnight.

Mohammad added the maintenance unit went as early as 4am to ensure that the whole Taman BSB and its surrounding areas are clean.

The peak of all the tasks is after the end of the grand assembly, he said, noting that rubbish can be seen scattered even though rubbish collection bins have been provided. “This is when we need to fully utilise our manpower, and _Alhamdulillah _we have committed personnel to do the job well,” Mohammad said.
