YSHHB volunteers join National Day Quran recitals

THIRTY local youth volunteers from Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) participated in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ (MCYS) programme to recite the 30 Juzuk (Chapters) of the Quran 32 times to commemorate Brunei’s 32nd national day.

The event was held yesterday at the multipurpose hall of the YSHHB complex in Bandar.

The guest of honour at the event was member of the board of directors at YSHHB and chairman of the committee for the YSHHB volunteers, Dato Paduka Dr Hj Affendy Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin.

According to a press release issued by YSHHB, the objective of the programme was to encourage and inject a spirit of love for the Quran while instilling a culture of reading the Quran among members of the YSHHB volunteers.

It also aims to increase participants’ awareness on the importance of reading and appreciating the Quran as a life guide.

According to Kasyfil Aziz Hj Jumat, assistant public relations officer at YSHHB, it was the first time the YSHHB volunteers participated in the annual programme.

The event commenced with the reading of the Takhtim Al-Quran, followed by Asar prayers led by Ustaz Md Nabil Hj Maidin, a member of the YSHHB volunteers.

They then read Ratib Al-Attas, led by Ustaz Hj Azman Hj Musa, also a member of the YSHHB volunteers.

Also attending the event was Hj Md Hanafi Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Abdul Rahman, acting managing director of YSHHB.

Yayasan, through its volunteers unit, has prepared a platform to allow interested individuals to become volunteers and participate in contributing to welfare and social work.

To date, more than 1660 volunteers, comprising professionals, youths and students, have registered with the Yayasan volunteers unit.
