BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), the country’s biggest bank, yesterday launched its first contactless Visa credit card which is powered with Visa payWave technology. The event was held at the at the Tarindak D’Seni in Bandar Seri Begawan.

BIBD’s Deputy Head of Retail Banking Hjh Nurul Akmar Hj Jaafar said by using a contactless card, the customers can complete their transactions faster as there is no need to swipe the card or sign for purchases.

She said most consumers are using cards instead of cash as this is more convenient.

“BIBD’s customers want the ability to easily pay online, via mobile banking or perhaps even in the social networking environment,” Hjh Nurul said at a speech delivered at the launch.

She said BIBD has been offering several cashless payment services, such as Internet banking and mobile banking to its customers for the past few years.

However, the bank also needs to keep up with latest developments in the retail industry.

This is why BIBD introduced Brunei’s first syariah-compliant contactless BIBD Visa Credit Card under the BIBD Visa Platinum and BIBD Visa Gold.

Ooi Huet Tyng, Visa Country Manager for Singapore and Brunei, said the number of Visa payWave transactions in the sultanate is growing.

She said using the BIBD Visa card is not only convenient but also safe.

“We believe that Visa payWave will help in the displacement of cash in the market, particularly for small ticket purchases, and drive Brunei to become a cashless society,” she said.

The BIBD Visa Credit Card gives more rewards for cardholders through its Hadiah points. Cardholders can also avail discounts from various shops.

Hjh Nurul Akmar said that customers need not be worried about the protection as the card comes with Takaful coverage.

Cardholders are also protected from unauthorised usage of the card as it is equipped with 3D secure and verified by Visa technology.

“All these services introduced are part of our efforts to provide consumers with better services that complement their lives and daily needs, further providing them with convenient financial services,” she said.

The new BIBD Visa Credit Card was launched by BIBD Deputy Head of Retail Banking Hjh Nurul Akmar Hj Md Jaafar. Senior managers and employees were also at the launch.
