Information Department continues flag-raising awareness campaign
MORE than 150 residents of the Al-Islah Rehabilitation Centre in Kg Kupang yesterday were briefed on the importance of hoisting and waving the national flag for national events in the sultanate.
The briefing was delivered by the Assistant Officer of Information Department, Eddy Iswandi Hj Ismail where he explained the background and history of the national flag as well as the national anthem.
During the briefing, the residents were also taught that raising the flag shows the nation’s loyalty to the monarch and it is the responsibility of everyone to participate in this activity.
“We should take this matter seriously. Our national flag represents our identity and we must respect it by showing effort in raising the flag,” he said.
He added that regardless of our status, every single person in the sultanate must be together in the flag-raising activity.
According to one of the officials of the centre who wished to remain anonymous, it’s important for the residents at the centre to learn about this matter as it could instill them with a sense of nationalism and indirectly understand their role as citizens in developing the country.
Also present during the event was the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (BKN) Deputy Commandant, Siti Norhadinah Hj Marsal, officers and personnel from the bureau as well as the Information Department.
Meanwhile, the Information Department through its branch in Temburong also conducted a flag inspection observation to several houses in Mukim Amo and Mukim Bato Apoi.
Monitoring of the national flag raising activity was conducted after its launching ceremony on February 9 with aim to ensure the general public is following the correct protocol and conduct of flag-raising.
