A CROCODILE was found wandering on a road at the Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd's waste disposal area in Anduki yesterday.

An official from the Belait Fire and Rescue Department said the crocodile was caught and released back into the wild.

The official, who did not want to be named, said the crocodile was believed to have made its way from a nearby swampy area and had acted aggressively, causing panic among workers nearby.

Pictures of the crocodile circulating on social media showed members of the Belait Fire and Rescue Department and persons in coveralls near the crocodile, which was crawling near cars parked on the side of the road.

The presence of the fire and rescue personnel was to ensure the safety of the workers, the official added.

With the help of a contractor, the official said the fire and rescue personnel deployed were able to control the situation by chasing away the crocodile with an excavator.

The official said the crocodile was unharmed as it returned to its habitat. No casualties were reported.
