2,408 miniature flags distributed to students in four districts

THE executive committee for the 32nd National Day celebrations distributed 2,408 miniature flags to students nationwide yesterday.

The distribution was held in all four districts as part of efforts to instill patriotism ahead of the celebrations.

In Brunei-Muara, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil helped distribute 700 miniature flags at the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Secondary Boys School to students.

The flags were received by student representatives of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Secondary Boys School, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School, Arabic Preparatory School in Bandar Seri Begawan and Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Religious School.

In her welcome speech, Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil said she hoped the raising of the miniature flags will nurture and cultivate the spirit of patriotism and love for their homeland.

“Together let us take care of and maintain the national flag as a symbol of our sovereignty and devotion to our king and country,” she said.

Also in attendance were officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

In Belait, 1,000 mini flags were distributed to representatives of Belait schools in an event at Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar (SMPJN) Secondary School.

Representatives from various government secondary schools, private schools, religious and Arabic schools in Belait as well as students from SMPJN were present to receive the mini flags.

The flags were distributed by the guest of honour, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the head of Royal Customs and Protocols.

He was accompanied by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awang Halbi Hj Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Paduka Dr Hj Affendy Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin and senior officers from the Ministry of Education.

In Tutong, Permanent Secretary of Defence Datin Paduka Hjh Suriyah Hj Umar distributed 500 mini flags to students at Persatuan Tanjong Maya School.

In Temburong, 208 flags were distributed at Rataie Primary School by Permanent Secretary (Performance) of the Ministry of Finance Ahmaddin Hj Abd Rahman.

Following the distribution, the guests of honour for each district toured the respective school grounds and visited their galleries and classes.
