THE Russian Ambassador to Brunei yesterday met with the rector of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) to discuss future collaborations that could further strengthen bilateral cooperations with Brunei.

A press statement from UNISSA said that in a meeting with Dr Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal, Russian Ambassador Vladen Stanislavovich Semivolos expressed an interest over having exchange programmes in Islamic studies between the two countries.

Having the exchange, he said, would be beneficial as both Brunei and Russia have their own Islamic heritage and culture to be studied together.

Russia, he said, currently have four universities offering Islamic studies courses conducted in Arabic, similar to UNISSA, so he was positive that having the exchanges may boost cooperation between the two countries.
