22 officers promoted

TWENTY-TWO officers of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) received their rank insignias during their promotion ceremony held at the RBPF headquarters yesterday.
The Commissioner of Police, Dato Paduka Seri Bahrin Md Noor, was on hand at the RBPF Banquet Hall to install the rank insignia on the uniforms of the newly commissioned officers.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hjh Mariyani Hj Abd Wahab who was promoted from Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP) was overjoyed with the promotion.
She said that pursuing a career in the police force one must be strong physically and mentally.
Being a mother, she said that one of the challenges women officers face is the juggling of both family and work. DSP Pengiran Shaiful Rezal Malek Faesal Pengiran Hj Merali who has been in the force for 22 years said he was overwhelmed after receiving his DSP rank insignia.
With the new rank, he said that he feels more motivated to work harder and to give his best to the force.
Being the director of the Police Band he has served diligently in raising the band’s portfolio and is also proud to be a part of setting up RBPF’s Violin Chambre Orchestra of which the sultanate is the only country among ASEAN countries to have the musical group in their police band.
He added that although he is in the police band, like other police officers, they need to be multi-skilled in different tasks.
“We also do investigative police work. As for myself I’m an expert in gaming, if there are gambling cases, I am qualified to give the reports,” he said adding that he was previously trained in the area.
DSP Hj Mohd Noor Hj Abd Rahman, RBPF spokesperson who was also promoted yesterday, took the opportunity to express his deepest gratitude towards the government of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei for his achievements within the force.
As Acting Head of the Public Relations, DSP Hj Mohd Noor said that the challenge of being in his position was to relay information to the media agencies and public as accurately and swiftly as possible whenever they needed it.
Three Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) was promoted to Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC); two Senior Superintendent of Police (S/SUPT) were promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP); five Superintendant of Police (SUPT) were promoted to Senior Superintendent of Police (S/SUPT); one Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was promoted to Superintendent of Police (SUPT); 10 Assistant Superintendent of Police were (ASP) promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and one Probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police (P/ASP) was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
