Scouts awarded for completing camp

MORE than 170 members of the Young Scouts, Venture Scouts and Rover Scouts in Brunei-Muara District received certificates of participation after completing a two-day Joint Orientation Camp yesterday.

Held at the National Scouts Training and Activity Centre on Jalan Gadong from February 7-8, the event involved participants from eight government secondary schools and a team from Pusat Bahagia.

On hand to present the certificates was Jalil Pengarah Hj Kapitan, head of the Uniformed Group and Community Service Unit under the Co-Curriculum Department at the Ministry of Education.

Also in attendance was Scouts Association Commissioner for Brunei-Muara District Zone 1 Skipper Shahruni Hj Sarbini, Camp Commandant Skipper Hj Mohammad Paiizal Hj Piluk and leaders and team supervisors.

The camp aims to introduce participants to activities in scouting such as making gadgets out of wood, knot-tying, cooking, photography and cycling, said a statement issued by the Brunei-Muara Scouts Association yesterday.

Other activities held during the camp included building tents in a group and learning about the strength of tent poles.
