THE Japan Foundation’s travelling exhibition “Tohoku: through the eyes of Japanese Photographers” will be in the sultanate from February 11 to March 4.

Various pictures taken from the Tohoku region by nine individuals and one group of photographers will be displayed, aiming at promoting its historical and cultural background to communities across the globe.

According to Japan Foundation’s website, the exhibition which marks the anniversary of the great earthquake at Tohoku does not attempt to document the damage or recovery phases of the region.

Instead, it utilises photography to showcase the natural and cultural elements of the region, from past to present, together with the people living in the area.

The exhibit includes pictures taken in 1940s, which will be put alongside images of the present times.

By presenting the viewpoints of photographers involved, the exhibition aims at highlighting the many aspects of Tohoku.

The Japanese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam will host the exhibition together with the Museums Department. Pictures will be showcased at the Malay Technology Museum, and no fees will be charged for entrance.
