THE first expo to bring together most of the country’s higher education institutions will take place this month in Jerudong.

The Scholarship Section and Higher Education Section of the Ministry of Education (MoE) will be holding Higher Education Expo 2016 from February 13-14 at BRIDEX Hall 1.

The expo is aimed at showcasing and sharing information on the various paths and opportunities available for students at all levels of higher education in Brunei.

The announcement was made during a media conference yesterday at the ministry’s building in Berakas.

During the conference, Hjh Anis Faudzulani Hj Dzulkiflee, head of the Higher Education Section, said the expo will feature representatives from various local government and private institutions.

They include Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) and Seri Begawan Religious Teachers’ University College (KUPU SB).

Also present will be representatives of Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), Laksamana College of Business (LCB), International Graduate Studies (IGS) College, Kemuda Institute, Brunei Darussalam Institute of Certified Public Accountants (BICPA) and Micronet International College.

The institutions will be showcasing the programmes and courses they offer including part-time education, technical education, training and undergraduate, master’s and doctorate levels.

Hjh Anis Faudzulani said the ministry has hosted similar expos over the years, but this year’s expo is a bigger event that will become a platform for students to gather the information they need to pursue their further education.

She said that previously, the expo was more focused on a few individual institutions’ open days, whereas this expo could provide more opportunities for students to further their education as they can move on to another institution’s booth if they feel they can’t meet the requirements.

“It (the expo) is a bigger platform that allows students to hop from one institution to another,” she said.

She added: “They will be able to see what’s available and see the options. You don’t have to go to another open day because we put everyone in one spot at one time.”

Hjh Anis Faudzulani said the ministry will also have various booths for students to enquire about the national scholarship scheme and education loan facility, Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC), the National Accreditation Council and the Higher Education Centralised Admission System (HECAS).

She reminded those interested to bring along their qualifications, certificates and other related documents.

The head of the Scholarship Section, Hj Ibrahim Hj Bagol, added that the expo is also an initiative to attract foreign students in the region to learn more about Brunei’s institutions.

The expo will be open from 8.30am to 5.30pm.
