THE Building Control Order 2014 has been enforced effective November last year, the Ministry of Development announced in a statement yesterday.

“This Order provides that only qualified persons appointed by the developer may submit plans, and qualified persons and builders are responsible for ensuring that the building works comply with the regulations and standards,” read the statement.

The authority responsible for this Order will be the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi).

The ministry said the initiative will strengthen the service quality of Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry by improving the governance of qualified persons and builders, as well as by ensuring all applications are processed in compliance with provisions in the Order and other related laws.

The ministry added that by centralising all applications for development to the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry, it will streamline the process as well as ensure the effective implementation of the order.

“This will improve the quality, reduce the cost and time in dealing with construction permits and also strengthen Brunei’s performance in doing business,” said the ministry.
