MUKIM Lumapas emerged as the champion of the first ever inter-Mukim choir competition on patriotic songs after narrowly defeating Mukim Kota Batu,

Although both choir teams scored 89 per cent, head of the judging committee, Eddy Misuari Ahmad Zaini, Music Director at the Radio Television Brunei (RTB) said the winner was finally selected based on their showmanship.

He explained that the Mukim Lumapas team was selected as the champion based on the variety of voices presented on stage, where all types of voices – alto, soprano, tenor and bass – were present within the line-up.

Besides good harmonisation, Eddy Misuari said the way the team performed also showed that they are quite experienced in choir competitions.

“The (Mukim Lumapas team) had good showmanship on stage, and that is why we, the judges, decided to give an extra point and select them as the winner,” he added.

Besides from the champion and the runner-up, Mukim Mentiri came in third and Mukim Berakas B came in fourth.

Organised by the Information Department, the competition was held to encourage the love towards the country within the grassroots community and to inculcate the awareness on the importance of patriotism.
