THE Chinese government will be sharing satellite data with Brunei under the China-ASEAN Remote Sensing Satellite Data Service Platform project, the Survey Department said in a statement yesterday.

The project would enable Brunei to receive and share Chinese satellite data with users in the country, the department said.

Brunei earlier this month held talks with the China Center for Resources Satellite Data and Application, a scientific research institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Technology and China National Space Administration.

The department said the project aimed to promote remote sensing application in social and economic development and enhance science and technology cooperation between China and Brunei.

Acting Surveyor-general Hj Ali Bakar Hj Kasim led the discussions during the China officials’ visit on January 14.

Led by the centre’s deputy director, Dr Min Xiangjun, the visit was to explore possible collaboration and sharing of experiences in science and technology , especially in remote sensing satellite data and systems.

The visit was as a continuation of the China-ASEAN Science and Technology Partnership Programme (STEP) that was signed in 2012, the department added.
