Man pleads guilty to consuming drugs

A LOCAL man yesterday pleaded guilty to two charges of consuming methylamphetamine.

Hj Hanipah Hj Mohamad admitted before the Magistrates’ Court in the capital to taking the Class ‘A’ drug, known locally as ‘Syabu’, on two separate occasions in 2008 and 2011.

Hj Hanipah was first arrested during an operation conducted by Narcotics Control Bureau officers in Kg Kumbang Pasang in October 2008.

He was brought to the Narcotics Control Bureau office on Jln Tungku for further investigation and to have his urine sample taken and analysed for drugs.

Hj Hanipah was caught again during an operation by Narcotics Control Bureau officers targeting a house in Kg Perpindahan Lambak Kanan on November 10, 2011.

He was detained and brought to the Narcotics Control Bureau office for further investigation and then to RIPAS Hospital to have a urine sample taken and analysed by the Department of Scientific Services for drugs.

The urine samples tested positive on both occasions for methylamphetamine.

Hj Hanipah was then subsequently charged under section 6(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27.

Under the section, the penalty for the consumption of controlled substances is a minimum of three years’ imprisonment and maximum of ten years, a fine of $20,000, or both.

Hj Hanipah has two previous convictions for the same offence in 1990 and 2002.
