Industry Competency Framework ready by 2021: EIDPMO
THE industry sector, comprising construction and hospitality for instance, will see the introduction of an “Industry Competency Framework (ICF)” within the next five years to create a structure for its activities and provide local employment opportunities.
Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office (EIDPMO) Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Mohammad Yasmin Hj Umar said the ICF framework will be part of the national manpower agenda.
“I want to roll out this ICF as soon as possible, and we are already working on it,’’ he told The Brunei Times.
YB Pehin Dato Hj Mohd Yasmin said they will establish the necessary framework to harness the potential of locals to work in the industry, hence ensuring that local SMEs will have capable local employees that are “industry-ready”.
Over the last five years, the government rolled out the Energy Industry Competency Framework (EICF) to train locals to match requirements of the oil and gas industry and create local employment.
The minister thanked the then minister of education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong, for being supportive from the start and working with them to implement the EICF.
YB Pehin Dato Hj Mohd Yasmin pointed out that endeavours for national development needed collaboration to succeed.
The minister cited His Majesty’s titah during the appointment of his cabinet ministers last October, where the monarch called for his ministers to work together towards Brunei’s prosperity.
YB Pehin Dato Hj Mohd Yasmin affirmed the monarch’s call and said there is no reason why they cannot work together towards this.
