Brunei establishes diplomatic ties with Republic of Gambia

BRUNEI Darussalam has established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Gambia, a West African country, yesterday.

In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFaT) said the signing of the Joint Communiqué took place at the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Representing the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the ceremony was His Excellency Dato Paduka Haji Alaihuddin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Hj Awang Md Taha, High Commisioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia while the Republic of Gambia was represented by His Excellency Abubucarr Jah, Ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia to Malaysia.

According to the media, President of the Republic of Gambia Yahya Jammeh declared the tiny West African country of 11, 295sq km an Islamic republic on Dec 11, 2015.

Gambia has a population of about 1.8 million as of December 16, 2015 and their official language is English.
