THE Community Development Department (JAPEM) is in the process of looking for temporary shelter for the family whose house burned down Sunday morning in Kg Lurong Sikuna, Kampong Ayer.

The family of eight, who lost everything in the fire, is now staying with family members in the same village.

JAPEM also provided the family with a week’s worth of food such as rice, sugar, assorted beverages and canned foods. Mattresses were also delivered to the family.

Faziaana Perancis told The Brunei Times on Sunday that at the time of the blaze, she was out with her father, and only her sister was in the house. She lived in the house with her father, five sisters and one of her sister’s fiancé.

The Fire and Rescue Department in a statement said the fire was caused by a loose connector to the regulator of the LPG gas cylinder. The fire caused an estimated loss of $65,000 and no casualty was reported.

The department deployed 24 officers and mobilised two fire and rescue boats from the Marine unit, one boat from Sg Lampai Fire Station and one boat from Pelancaran Fire Station. The fire was put out in 14 minutes after it broke out.
