3 foreigners charged for overstaying

THREE foreign men were yesterday charged with illegally remaining in Brunei after their respective passes expired. 

Bangladeshi national Billal Hossain allegedly overstayed in the country since his visit pass ended in March 2013. He was arrested on January 14 at 02.35am during a raid in Kg Bunut by the Immigration Department.

 The 31-year-old defendant was ordered to be taken into custody, pending a further mention of the case on January 18.

 Meanwhile, 46-year-old Indonesian national Muhd Asis Mudhar was accused of staying behind in Brunei following the expiration of his visit pass in January 2014. He was also caught during a raid in Kg Bengkurong yesterday at 1.25am.

Another 33-year-old Indonesian national, Ujang Kosim Asdi, was arrested at the raid for illegally living in the sultanate after his immigration pass ended in June 2014.

 Both defendants were ordered to be remanded until a further mention of their respective cases on January 16. The men each face imprisonment between three months and two years as well as a minimum of three whippings.
