Teacher charged with outraging modesty of 3 pupils at school

A LOCAL primary school teacher was yesterday charged with outraging the modesty of three pupils at a school’s science laboratory room.

The 33-year-old defendant, whose identity is withheld to protect the victims, is facing three counts of outraging the modesty of Miss X (aged 11), Miss Y (aged 10) and Miss Z (aged 10) at a primary school in the capital.

According to the charge sheet read out by deputy public prosecutor Hjh Nurjauinah Hj Kula at the Magistrates’ Court, the teacher was accused of putting a paper against Miss X’s private parts at a science lab in early 2014.

In the same year, the teacher was also charged with outraging the modesty of another pupil, Miss Y, by touching her thighs.

The defendant is also accused of outraging the modesty of a third victim on November 1, 2014 at a science lab.

If found guilty, the defendant can be imprisoned for a term of not fewer than three years and not more than 10 years and with whipping.

Senior Magistrate Hj Nabil Daraina PUKDPSSU Hj Badaruddin remitted the case to the High Court yesterday. During the High Court proceedings, the defendant said he wished to hire a counsel.

Justice Dato Paduka Steven Chong granted him two weeks to find a lawyer following a $5,000 court bail and one local surety.

As part of the bail conditions, DPP Hjh Nurjauinah said the accused is not allowed to directly or indirectly contact the prosecutors’ witnesses, especially the victims.

The next court hearing will be on January 26.
