THE Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC)’s Blood Bank is planning to organise more blood drives this year.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, Blood Bank Nurse Romeo Tabio, said the JPMC Blood Bank currently does blood donation drives twice a month.

“Instead of twice a month, we are planning to organise blood donation drives every week,” she said.

The JPMC Blood Bank collaborates with private organisations to organise blood donation drives.

“We collaborate with small companies. For bigger companies, we give priority to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital as they have more patients and manpower.”

Tabio said the most of the blood donors are volunteers, those that have donated before.

“Members of the public are also welcomed to donate whenever there’s a blood donation drive.”

Tabio said last year, the JPMC Blood Bank received more than 2,000 pints of blood.

“Because of the increasing number of patients and once the Brunei Cancer Centre’s new building is completed, there is a need for more collection of blood this year.”

The objective of the blood donation drives are to raise awareness on the importance of donating blood, in saving lives and contributing to blood banks in the sultanate.
