Court sets trial dates for alleged cop beater

Trial dates have been set for a local man charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a police officer.

Pg Azizul Akbar Pg Hj Badaruddin was accused of hitting APO Hj Mohd Zulhabri Hj Mohd Yassin multiple times on the head to the point of unconsciousness on the night of August 11, 2015 at the defendant’s apartment on Jln Tasek Lama.

Judge Hj Nabil Daraina PUKDPSSU Hj Badarussin set trial dates from June 20-25 during the session at the Intermediate Court yesterday.

The 43-year-old defendant was previously granted $10,000 bail and two local sureties by Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah Hj Mohd Hussain a week after the alleged incident took place, which has since been further extended.

He had pleaded not guilty and claimed trial during a previous mention of the case on December 24.

Under Chapter 22 of the Penal Code, an offence under section 325 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and whipping.
