THE Korean embassy announced yesterday that the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) will be held on March 20 at Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s Language Centre.

The TOPIK is designed to assess and certify the language proficiency of learners of Korean as a foreign language, the embassy said in a statement.

It said test results can be used as a guideline for placing foreign students at Korean universities or non-Korean workers at enterprises in Korea or overseas.

The test is open to non-native Korean speakers in Brunei and overseas Koreans. The results will be announced on April 21.

Applicants should register and submit the completed application form (obtainable at the Korean embassy), the test fee of $30 for TOPIK I (beginner’s level) or $35 for TOPIK II (intermediate and advanced level), two photos (3 x 4 cm) and a copy of their identification card to the Korean embassy between January 4-19 during office hours except weekends.

The embassy said UBD’s Language Centre is the accredited examination centre for TOPIK certified by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) of Korea.

UBD has been offering Korean language courses with strong support from the Korean embassy and the Korea Foundation.

For more information, the public can visit the embassy’s website at http://brn.mofa.go.kr or Facebook page ‘koreanembassyinbrunei’ or contact Feroz at 2330250.
