THE Royal Brunei Police Force and Land Transport Department jointly conducted a roadblock operation yesterday in Temburong District.

The operation, led by Sergeant Major 3049 Hj Abu Bakar Hj Abd Rahman, aimed to ensure the safety of motorists and their passengers along Jln Labu in Kg Perdayan by checking that they were adhering to the laws and regulations governing the use of public roads.

Among the traffic offences recorded were speeding, driving with well-worn tyres, using a prohibited licence plate and driving with a faulty horn.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, Sergeant Major Hj Abu Bakar said both Bruneian and Malaysian registered vehicles were being stopped not just for general inspection to ensure they were in compliance with the law but also to advise drivers on the steps they can take to ensure safe passage to their destination.

“We are telling drivers to ensure that they take the necessary precautions such as driving within the speed limit, using tires that are not worn down and making sure that more than one passenger is awake throughout the journey,” he said.

“We would like all road users to be extra careful, drive safely and keep their loved ones in mind when driving as these roads see heavier traffic during the holiday season in December,” he said.

Sergeant Major Hj Abu Bakar said the team chose the particular stretch of road along Jln Labu for a roadblock as it is a place where drivers are normally prone to speeding owing to the isolated nature of the area without many traffic lights or junctions.
