Festival to mark significance of rice

BRUNEI will be hosting a two-day ‘ASEAN Rice Festival’ at StarLodge Hotel in Jerudong starting today.

Organised by the Museums Department at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the festival carries the theme ‘Celebrating Rice As A Cultural Heritage’.

There will be presentation of working papers from and exhibitions on padi farming by various ASEAN countries, including Brunei’s Agriculture and Agrifood Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.

In a statement, the Museums Department welcomed members of the public to attend the working paper sessions, which begins today at 2pm and tomorrow at 8.30am.

Pg Norazah Pg Hj Muhammad, ethnology officer at the Museums Department, is slated to deliver a working paper titled ‘Rice Festivals of Brunei Darussalam’.

A spokesperson from the department said the festival was organised as one of the projects under the ASEAN Committee for Culture and Information (ASEAN COCI). All 10 ASEAN member states will be participating in the festival.
