MPM Telisai honours senior citizens

THE Majlis Perundingan Mukim (MPM) Telisai organised a gathering for senior citizens yesterday at the Bukit Beruang Community Hall.

The gathering, held in conjunction with International Senior Citizen’s Day 2015, was aimed to encouraging and taking care of the elderly as well as honouring for their past services.

“The gathering was also one way to meet and interact with them and listen to stories of their life experiences that we can take as an example and lesson,” the village head of Kampong Bukit Beruang, Ahmad Aman said in his welcoming speech.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Penghulu of Mukim Telisai, Yang Berhormat Hj Ramli Hj Lahit, said it is important to celebrate the achievements of senior citizens.

“This age group was also invited because we want to make sure that they are healthy and are still capable of performing daily tasks.”

“About 21 came today and we are happy to see that they came to the gathering.” YB Hj Ramli said that some of the senior citizens were not able to make it.

“Because of this we are planning on organising an ‘acara berdudun’ where the MPM committee members will visit houses of those who had difficulty attending the gathering to see how they are doing and talk to them.”

“We want to do this to let them know that they are not forgotten and to make them feel appreciated.”

YB Hj Ramli said that MPM Telisai have plans to make the gathering an annual activity.

The gathering also saw donations presented to the senior citizens by the guest of honour Dato Paduka Hj Jamain Hj Julaihi, permanent secretary (Downstream & Power) of the Energy Division at the Prime Minister’s Office (EDPMO).

Also present were the Tutong District Officer Wardi Hj Mohd Ali, Assistant District Officer Hj Adnan Hj Adam, Special Duties Officer at the Tutong District Officer, Hj Haizul Rizal Hj Yahya.
