12 Hijrah new year babies born

TWELVE babies were born in Brunei Darussalam on the new Islamic year yesterday.

The Brunei-Muara District recorded the highest number of the 1437 Hijrah births with 11 newborns comprising six boys and five girls.

The first newborn was a girl delivered at 1.05am in Brunei-Muara to parents Harish Dareshwar and Sharayu Dareshwar.

The Belait District recorded only one baby was delivered to parents Pg Rosemawati Pg Ismail and Sukardi Md Yassin.

“We are truly blessed. Everything went according to plan, I was able to have him through a normal delivery,” said Pg Rosemawati.

The 37-year-old mother, married to army man Sukardi added that the baby weighed in at 3.55 kilogrammes.

“He’s perfect. Now we are deciding on his name,” said Sukardi, who is deployed to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Third Batallion in Lumut.

Meanwhile, no births were recorded in Tutong and Temburong.

All the babies and their parents received baby-related products, guide book to birth/ baby names from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, savings accounts with amount of $200 and hampers worth of $50 each given by Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB).

Each newborn also received donations provided by Syarikat Takaful Brunei Darussalam Sdn Bhd (STBD) and its subsidiaries in the form of voucher worth $250 for the participation to Takaful Nur Savings as well as baby products.

The gift presentation ceremony for the Brunei-Muara District was held at the Seminar Room of the Women and Children’s Centre of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, and attended by special guests comprising Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abd Rahman and his wife Datin Hjh Alimah Md Taib as well as Minister of Health Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yusof and his wife Datin Paduka Hjh Salmah Hj Hanafiah. Also in attendance was Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pg Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar and the wife; Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs as Member of Board of Directors of STBD and its subsidiaries Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Yussof and wife; as well as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs as Chairman of Board of Directors of TAIB and wife.

In Belait, the gift was presented by Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Dr Hjh Rahmah Hj Md Said.
