A CURTAIN shop in Belait’s Kg Pandan was fined $200 yesterday for indiscriminately dumping rubbish at the back of their store.

The Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued the compound fine after finding pieces of wood, plastic, nails and metal in the car park area.

The offence falls under Chapter 12 (1) (B) of the Minor Offences Act Paragraph 30 for the storage or dumping of items in a public area without a valid permit. A fine of $1,000 will be levied for a second offence. A third offence will result in a fine of $3,000 and a prison term not exceeding three months.

The Municipal Board has issued numerous reminders to owners of public and commercial premises to care for and maintain the surrounding areas, dumping rubbish only in allocated areas to avoid pollution.

The Enforcement Section of the Municipal Board will continue to conduct periodic patrols and monitoring.
