China pledges support for Brunei’s economic diversification endeavours

CHINA is eager to continue supporting Brunei’s economic diversification endeavours, said the chinese ambassador to Brunei yesterday.

Yang Jian said the Chinese Embassy in Brunei will spare no effort in promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and peoples as a bridge and as a builder.

“We are willing to help Brunei translate its potentials into greater economic and development advantages, and realise the Wawasan (Vision) 2035, through closer cooperation in agricultural, fishery, tourism, petrochemical, infrastructure and other fields,” she said at a reception to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong last night.

China and Brunei signed the joint communique for the establishment of diplomatic ties 24 years ago. Since then, our mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation have been growing fast, she said.

In the past year, China and Brunei enjoyed continuous progress in bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

Last November, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the APEC meeting in Beijing and held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

This year, delegations from China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Hainan Province and other places visited Brunei, and Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar attended the CAEXPO in Nanning for the 7th consecutive year.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and wife Datin Hajah Rosnah attended the reception last night.
