Winners of Museums Race announced
MUSEUMS Race Brunei concluded yesterday with the prize presentation ceremony for winners of the race held in conjunction with Museums Department’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
In his speech during the ceremony held at the Jerudong Park Garden, the Director of Museums Department Pg Dr Karim Pg Hj Osman said that the inaugural race is part of the department’s initiative to promote the museums under it to the public. “The recreational race often receives good (public) reception as it is different from other conventional sports… it is something new,” he said.
The race kicked off its first challenge on August 16 and continued its two challenges in the following Sundays. The department in a press release stated that 89 teams consisting of four members each took part in the race which was divided into three zones.
Each zone comprised a series of challenges that tested the participants physical, creativity and knowledge related to the heritage and tradition in Brunei Darussalam.
Alacrity team was crowned champion for the race with second place going to team Dayang Semaun and third place to team Twenty-seven.
Present to give the prizes to the winners was the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman.
Datin Paduka Hjh Adina also presented donations to Yayasan Kanser Kanak-Kanak (YASKA), Pusat Ehsan and SMARTER Brunei.
Among those present at the celebration were Museum's Curator of Natural History and Manager of Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Omar Ali and the Special Duties Officer at the Museums Department YAM Pg Anak Hj Abdul Quddus.
