THOUSANDS gathered at the Tutong Waterfront (Tatangan Persiaran Sungai Tutong) to participate in the Festival Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 69th birthday last night.

According to the Tutong District Office, the celebration was a step in enlivening the district.

It also hoped to promote and enhance the public’s and businesses’ involvement in the events.

The celebration kicked off with a parade featuring some 500 participants grouped into 19 teams.

The participants included those from government agencies, District and Village Consultative Councils, secondary school students and youth.

The participants then entertained the crowd by putting on various performances such as dances, martial arts and cultural performances.

This was followed by a water parade before the night’s events concluded with a display of fireworks by the waterfront.

Taking part in the celebration was Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awang Halbi Hj Md Yussof, permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries.
