UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and the Centre for Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV) of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) marked the end of their joint cooperative ‘Socio-academic Laboratory’ programme with a closing ceremony held at The Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong last night.

The programme is part of the initiatives of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two universities back in 2011 which aimed at exposing ISDEV-USM students with the Arabic language module taught in UNISSA month under the coordination of the university’s Faculty of Arabic Language and Islamic Civilisation, Centre for Knowledge and Language Dissemination and Centre for Postgraduate Studies.

The event started with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by verses from Al-Quran led by Hj Mohd Sujairi bin Hj Dollah, a post-graduate student from UNISSA.

A welcoming speech was also delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Arabic Language and Islamic Civilisation, Dr Siti Sara Hj Ahmad in which she thanked and reminded participants to practise the knowledge they have gained during the 33-day programme.

Performances ranging from Nasyid, Tausyeh and poetry recitation were featured by some of the UNISSA students. Present as the guest of honour was the Deputy High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, Haznah Md Hashim.
