A WOMAN that was allegedly abused by her husband whose picture has gone viral in the social media sphere has been referred to the Women and Children Abuse unit under the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), a spokesperson from RBPF confirmed yesterday.

The 21-year-old local, shared a photo of her battered face on a social website -Instagram with the tagline ‘saynotodomesticviolence’ and ‘iwantjustice’ which quickly gained attention from other Bruneian Instagram users.

“This took me a lot of guts to post this. I don’t care what everyone thinks, I need to let it all out before I go crazy. I’ve been keeping this a secret for so long. It’s time people find out the truth. Yes, this has been going on as long as I can remember but this time it got too far…” stated the victim in her social media account.

The photo showing the victim with bruises on her face and strangle marks around the neck, caused other social media users to comment on her account, advising her to seek help and lauded the victim for her bravery.

“This is totally unacceptable. Open your eyes and stand up against domestic violence,” commented one social media user.

According to the RBPF spokesperson they are currently investigating the case and have further referred it to the Women and Children Abuse unit.

Members of the public are advised to immediately report to the RBPF should there be any abuse or hurt inflicted upon them.
