THE Executive Committee for Islamic Events and National Al-Quran Recital Competition for Adults met yesterday to discuss the format of next year’s Islamic celebrations.

Held at the International Convention Centre, the committee planned suitable themes for the events to be held in 2016, corresponding to 1437 Hijrah.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ statement, the closed-door meeting discussed side activities and appointed committee members for the respective events. The statement said the events include the new Islamic year 1437 Hijrah celebration, Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) birthday celebration, women’s assembly to celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) birthday, Isra’ Mikraj and Nuzul Al-Quran celebrations as well as the Quran Recital Competition for Adults.

Minister of Religious Affairs YB Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman chaired the meeting. Also present were Chief of Adat Istiadat YAM Pg Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pg Anak Hj Abd Aziz, State Mufti YB Pehin Dato Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz Juned and other senior officials.
