Man who beat cop released on bail

A MAN accused of beating up a police officer was released on a $10,000 court bail yesterday while investigation into the case are being carried out.

The defendant Pg Azizul Akbar Pg Hj Badarudddin was brought to the Magistrates’ Court last week and he was charged with causing grievious hurt to APO Hj Mohd Zulhabri Hj Mohd Yassin by hitting the complainant on the head multiple times.

It went on state that the incident had occurred at his home at the Tasek Apartment on August 11 at around 7pm.

During the proceedings yesterday before senior magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah Hj Mohd Hussain, deputy public prosecutor Norhayati DP Hj Omar said that they were not ready to take the defendant’s plea as investigation is ongoing and they sought for a one month adjournment.

The prosecution did not raise any objection for Pg Azizul to be released on court bail with condition that he does not approach the complainant and potential prosecution witnesses as well as to report the Central Police Station fortnightly and inform them whenever he plans to leave the country.

Meanwhile, defence counsel Rajiv Prabhakaran who represented Pg Azizul during last week’s mention discharged himself from further representing the defendant upon instructions from the family members.

A further mention of the case is scheduled to be heard on September 17.
