Brunei, Singapore education ministries discuss collaboration

 THE Ministry of Education (MoE) of Brunei Darussalam hosted the 8th Joint Working Group Meeting between the Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Education of Singapore, yesterday.

The closed door meeting was co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary (Core Education) of MoE Brunei Darussalam, Dr Hj Junaidi Hj Abd Rahman with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Singapore, Chan Lai Fung.

The annual meeting between the two ministries is to discuss educational collaborative programmes and activities, a press statement from Brunei’s Ministry of Education said.

“Through this regular meeting, the two ministries are kept abreast with recent educational developments.”

The Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam highlighted the current developments in Brunei’s National Education System for the 21st Century (SPN21) where various programmes have been initiated to further improve the education system in the country.

This includes the progress made in areas of information and communication technology and Integrated National Education Information System (iNEIS) and the Brunei Teachers’ Standard, among others, added the press release.

Singapore’s Ministry of Education also shared its recent education developments and their on-going initiatives to support holistic education and Early Childhood Care and Education.

The meeting also saw existing collaborations being reviewed and progress of programmes and activities under the joint working group initiatives were reported.

Among the programmes and activities reported include the school twinning programmes between primary and secondary schools of the two countries, the Brunei English Language Teachers’ Attachment Programme, Singapore Teachers’ Malay Language Immersion Programme and the Brunei – Singapore School Leaders Adventure Camp.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Singapore, Chan Lai Fung led a five member delegation which included the Divisional Director of Planning and senior officers from Singapore’s Ministry of Education.

Prior to the meeting, the Singapore delegation visited the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) PLM Campus in Tungku, Gadong where they were welcomed by Director of IBTE, Dr Chin Wei Keh.

Principal of the centre, Dr Sheikh Luqman Sheikh Abd Hamid, briefed the delegation on the Mechanical Training Centre and led a tour around the campus.

The 8th Joint Working Group Meeting took place at the Mutiara Ballroom of Radisson Hotel.
