Belait gears up for HM’s annual visit

FINAL preparations are underway in Belait as the district gears up for the much anticipated visit by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam later this week.

Seven hundred and sixty nine students, youth and representatives from ethnic groups took centre stage yesterday at the Kuala Belait Municipal Field to rehearse their special performance dedicated to the monarch's 69h birthday.

Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman, who is also the Chairperson of the Executive Committee for the birthday celebrations, inspected the performance, which is scheduled to play across three segments culminating in a grand finale.

Radio Televisyen Brunei Head of Radio Programming Pg Ahmad Pg Hj Mahmud who is the creative director for performances in Belait said the segments would showcase the theme of Raja Pencetus Inspirasi Generasi Berwawasan or the monarch who inspires a visionary generation.

"We have planned a few unique performances which will be new for Belait. We will tell the theme through song, poetry and choral speaking, which will use different voice combinations and contrasts to bring colour and quality," he said. With the first three segments featuring song, dance and drama, the grand finale is expected to display physical excellence and self-defense.

"We have the Wushu, Karate, Silat and the national service programme (PKBN) showcasing their physical abilities in supporting and defending the monarch's reign. A human tower is also planned," he added.

The majority of the performances will be accompanied by live contemporary and traditional music. Besides the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony, an exhibition stand will also be constructed.

Also present for the inspection were Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Md Yussof, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs; Belait district representatives at the Legislative Council; Permanent Secretaries and Deputies; and Belait District Officer Hj Haris Othman.
