Sungai Buloh donates to village orphans
BRUNEI MUARA
FORTY village orphans of Kg Sungai Buloh and STKRJ Kg Sungai Buloh received cash donations and coupons on the sidelines of a Hari Raya ceremony held at the head of Kg Sungai Buloh’s residence yesterday.
Speaking to The Brunei Times, head of Kg Sungai Buloh Pg Hj Ismail Pg Hj Ibrahim said while the cash donations came from anonymous donors in the village, the $50 coupons were contributed by the village’s cooperative in a bid to ease financial burdens faced by the orphans.
“By using the coupons, the orphans can get their daily necessities including food and drinks from the cooperative; and this is among the main objectives of holding the event besides allowing them to enjoy the Hari Raya festivities similar to others around them,” he said.
“The recipients for the donation were also chosen from those below 20 years old in this village; and this is because we also wanted to ease the burdens of those orphans who are currently unemployed and waiting for jobs or opportunities to further their studies,” he added.
Among those who presented the donations to the orphans was the guest of honour, Acting Brunei Muara District Officer Mislee Hj Abd Karim.
In addition, the head of the village also expressed his appreciation towards those who had helped him to take care of the welfare of the people and the safety of the village.
