SOME roads will be closed in Tutong during His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 69th birthday meet-and-greet on Tuesday.

During a press conference, Senior Inspector Shamsul Nahar Hj Idris, acting traffic officer of the Tutong District Police, said some roads will close as early as 6am until the end of the event.

The affected roads include Jalan Sg Basong, a three-way junction of Jalan Sungai Besar (the route towards Tutong Hospital) until Simpang 59, which is near the TelBru building. These roads will be closed from 8am onwards.

“The three-way junction or the entrance to the Tutong District Community Hall Complex up until the roundabout at the Language and Literature Bureau Library will be closed to all vehicles without special passes from 6am until the end of the event,” he said.

To control the traffic flow, police will be deployed to give instructions to motorists who are required to follow police orders at all times. Invited guests were advised to arrive early and bring their permits for easier parking coordination. The public was also urged to arrive early and carpool to ease traffic congestion.

Senior Inspector Shamsul Nahar also advised members of the public to use alternative roads and tolerate others when on the road to avoid any incidents. He also reminded them not to leave any valuables in their vehicles which could attract criminals and to park responsibly in public car parking areas.
