Sultan sends condolences to China

HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday sent condolence messages to China’s President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang following the Tianjin blasts.

In the message to Xi, His Majesty said he was saddened to learn of the loss of lives and property as a result of the explosions at a warehouse in the port city of Tianjin.

A statement issued by His Majesty’s Office said the monarch extended his deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the people and government of China, especially to the families affected by this tragedy.

In his message to Li, the Sultan expressed his deep regret on the loss of lives and property.

It added that His Majesty’s Government and the people of Brunei joined him in expressing their condolences to the people and government of China, specifically the victims’ families.

According to news reports, the death toll from the explosions had reached 85 on Friday night, including 21 firefighters.
