‘Bruneians must be ready to make sacrifices’
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
BRUNEIANS must be prepared to make sacrifices in view of government budget cuts, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said yesterday.
Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman said Bruneians need to work harder in order to ensure the survival of future generations.
“It’s time for everybody to tighten their belts. We’re having budget cuts now, and for the survival of this country, everybody has to be prepared to sacrifice,” she said.
Datin Paduka Hjh Adina was speaking on the sidelines of the ceremonial parade to mark His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 69th birthday celebrations.
With the price of oil going down, she said Bruneians need to show their loyalty to the monarch and the country because they are all part of the nation.
“It’s time for the people to think about the future, our children and grandchildren and what type of future they’re going to have,” she said.
She added that Bruneians shouldn’t be complacent and expect to live the same sort of lifestyle as they always have.
“Things will not be handed to you all the time. It’s time for us not only to show our patriotism but also (to ensure) the survival of our country. Everyone has to do their part,” Datin Paduka Hjh Adina said.
She also conveyed her best wishes to His Majesty on the occasion of his 69th birthday.
