Man probed for assaulting policeman

THE police are currently investigating a 43-year-old man who has been charged with beating up a police officer three days ago.

The court document submitted by Prosecuting Officer Muhammad Aiman Adri Ahmad Zakaria states that the defendant, Pg Azizul Akbar Pg Hj Badarudddin, is facing a charge of causing grievious hurt to APO Hj Mohd Zulhabri Hj Mohd Yassin by hitting the complainant on the head multiple times.

It went on to state that the incident had occurred at the Tasek Apartment on August 11 at around 7pm.

During the proceedings yesterday, the prosecution said that Pg Azizul Akbar was arrested when he surrendered himself to the police on August 11 at around 9pm. The prosecution applied for further remand as the police needed the defendant’s assistance in the investigation in locating exhibits and giving statement to the police.

He further told the court that that the complainant is currently being treated at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital. He went on to say that the complainant was still unconscious and in critical condition.

Pg Azizul’s defence counsel Rajiv Prabhakaran had sought for the court to have his client released on bail but this was denied in favour of the prosecution’s grounds for remand.

The defendant was further denied from seeing his family members yesterday as investigation are still ongoing.

The presiding Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah Hj Mohd Hussain granted the prosecution’s application for further the remand until August 17 to allow investigation to be completed.
