Thai national fined for contraband

A THAI national was fined $2,200 fine after he pleaded guilty to possession of undeclared goods.

The defendant, Ramrit, 52, was found with contraband when customs officers at Kuala Lurah Control Post inspected the defendant’s car on May 21.

During the inspection, the officers found 11 bottles of liquor and four cartons of cigarettes that were concealed at the right and left passenger compartment of the car.

The defendant admitted that the items belonged to him and were for his personal consumption.

The total excise duty to be paid for the cigarettes and alcohol was $292.

During the proceedings, the court ordered the contraband to be forfeited to the state.
