THOSE involved in food entrepreneurship are encouraged to register under the Agriculture and Agrifood Incentive Scheme to ensure their products are safe for human consumption.
Senior Agriculture Officer Hjh Siti Raihani Hj Abd Hamid told _The Brunei Times _during the Agrifood Industry Division’s roadshow at the Rimba Horticulture Centre yesterday that registering under the scheme will allow consumers to purchase their products with confidence.
“We want to help our local food vendors develop and reach the market level. They can do this by taking part in our scheme,” said Hjh Siti Raihani, who is also the head of the Agrifood Industry Division.
The scheme was officiated in 2010 under the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR).
“The scheme hopes to assist those in the food industry and it is beneficial to Brunei because it provides a boost to the industry,” said Hjh Siti Raihani.
She explained that registration for the scheme is open to all players of the food industry, adding that the department will assist them by providing services such as proper labelling, packaging, testing for food safety and more.
“Registered members will also take part in various workshops and talks to ensure their products are of high quality,” she said.
