BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
TWO women of Iban descent in the Temburong district made a leap of faith by embracing Islam in a conversion ceremony at the Kg Semabat Prayer Hall yesterday.
The conversion ceremony coincidentally took place during a meet and greet session for Muslim converts in the district, held in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebration organised by Islamic Da’wah Centre.
Seri Dewi Anak Adin, 38, of Kg Rataie, and Mimi Iswana Anak Irwani, 19, of Kg Amo ‘C’, declared their faith through the Dua Kalimah Syahadah.
Seri Dewi is now known as Ulya Hana Madiyyah Abdullah Adin, while Mimi Iswana is now known as Nadzifah Ufairah Abdul Rahman.
Present as the guest of honour during the meet and greet session was Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman.
Yesterday’s event also saw the handing over of waqaf or endowments in the form of a vacuum cleaner to Hj Mokhsin Karim, acting imam of Kg Semabat Prayer Hall.
A statement provided by the Islamic Da’wah Centre said the meet and greet session for the converts is an annual event organised by the Special Unit of Da’wah Development Section under the Islamic Da’wah Centre.
One of the objectives of the event was to provide care and ensure the well-being of the converts, especially those living in rural areas.
It also provides an avenue to strengthen the relationship between the converts and officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
